Title: Basketball Software Engineer, Sacramento Kings
Department: Basketball Operations
Reports To: Vice President, Data Science & Planning
Salary: $90K - $150K
Position Summary:
As a Basketball Software Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain critical applications and systems within Basketball Operations. Through full-stack engineering, UI/UX, and data engineering, your work will directly support player evaluation, roster construction, cap management, and long-term planning. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong technical capabilities and a passion for using technology and insights to drive sustainable success. This position requires unconventional hours including working in the evenings, weekends and on holidays.
Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities):
- Design, build, and maintain full-stack web applications, including internal tools for scouting reports, advanced analytics, and player information.
- Build responsive tools and interfaces that allow users to explore complex datasets and extract actionable insights.
- Partner directly with analysts, scouts, and executives to translate operational workflows into intuitive digital tools that support scouting, coaching, and roster management.
- Elevate team engineering practices through code reviews, standards, and collaboration.
- Integrate third-party data feeds, internal API services, and data pipelines.
- Represent the Kings in a professional manner while maintaining confidentiality.
Qualifications
- While we ideally seek candidates with 3-5+ years of full-stack software engineering experience, we are open to high-potential junior engineers or recent graduates who possess strong fundamentals.
- Background in full-stack web development. Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React or Vue) and backend development (RESTful services, security, and performance optimization).
- Experience or familiarity with managing relational databases, ETL workflows, and cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred).
- Familiarity with UI/UX design principles, wireframing, or product design is a plus.
- Ability to work evening, weekend, and holiday hours (as dictated by the basketball calendar).
- Willingness and ability to relocate to Sacramento and work on-site in the Kings Basketball offices.
