Title: Basketball Software Engineer, Sacramento Kings

Department: Basketball Operations

Reports To: Vice President, Data Science & Planning

Salary: $90K - $150K

Position Summary:

As a Basketball Software Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain critical applications and systems within Basketball Operations. Through full-stack engineering, UI/UX, and data engineering, your work will directly support player evaluation, roster construction, cap management, and long-term planning. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong technical capabilities and a passion for using technology and insights to drive sustainable success. This position requires unconventional hours including working in the evenings, weekends and on holidays.

Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities):

  • Design, build, and maintain full-stack web applications, including internal tools for scouting reports, advanced analytics, and player information.
  • Build responsive tools and interfaces that allow users to explore complex datasets and extract actionable insights.
  • Partner directly with analysts, scouts, and executives to translate operational workflows into intuitive digital tools that support scouting, coaching, and roster management.
  • Elevate team engineering practices through code reviews, standards, and collaboration.
  • Integrate third-party data feeds, internal API services, and data pipelines.
  • Represent the Kings in a professional manner while maintaining confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • While we ideally seek candidates with 3-5+ years of full-stack software engineering experience, we are open to high-potential junior engineers or recent graduates who possess strong fundamentals.
  • Background in full-stack web development. Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React or Vue) and backend development (RESTful services, security, and performance optimization).
  • Experience or familiarity with managing relational databases, ETL workflows, and cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred).
  • Familiarity with UI/UX design principles, wireframing, or product design is a plus.
  • Ability to work evening, weekend, and holiday hours (as dictated by the basketball calendar).
  • Willingness and ability to relocate to Sacramento and work on-site in the Kings Basketball offices.

Total compensation & offer package will include the following:

  • Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits for employees and dependents
  • Paid Time Off + 11 Paid Holidays
  • Employer 401(k) match
  • Sacramento Kings home game tickets, team store discounts, and more!
