Job Description
We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Data & Sports Science Intern to support the development of a performance benchmarking database. This role sits at the intersection of data science and sports performance, offering hands-on experience in building, validating, and analyzing athlete performance data across multiple sports.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and structure a comprehensive athlete benchmarking database across key performance pillars: Speed, Endurance, Strength, Mobility, and Reaction
- Clean, audit, and validate datasets by removing outliers, standardizing units, and ensuring data accuracy
- Cross-reference data with peer-reviewed research and established performance norms
- Apply statistical techniques to smooth data and create continuous benchmark curves across age groups
- Develop percentile distributions and interpolate missing data points
- (Optional) Visualize datasets using tools such as Excel or Power BI
- Maintain clear documentation and ensure high standards of data quality
Requirements:
- Undergraduate or postgraduate student in Data Science, Sports Science, Applied Statistics, Kinesiology, or a related field
- Strong proficiency in Excel (Power Query preferred)
- Knowledge of statistical analysis and data cleaning techniques
- Understanding of sports performance metrics or exercise physiology (preferred)
- Familiarity with tools like Power BI, Python, or R (nice to have)
- Strong research and academic referencing skills
- Detail-oriented, self-driven, and able to work independently
