Job Description

Livingston FC are seeking a Lead Data Scientist to play a central role in the club’s football intelligence, recruitment, performance analysis, and data infrastructure operations.

This is a unique opportunity to combine football expertise with advanced data science, helping drive recruitment strategy, player development, performance monitoring, and innovation across the club through cutting-edge analytical approaches and technology.

Almondvale Stadium, Livingston (Hybrid working available up to 2 days per week)

⚽ Key Responsibilities

  • Support player recruitment strategy through identification, analysis, and benchmarking of transfer targets
  • Deliver evidence-based recommendations to the Sporting Director and Head of Football Operations
  • Produce pre-match, post-match, and opposition analysis reports
  • Analyse tactical trends, player tendencies, team styles, and game model adherence
  • Develop player performance reports and long-term development tracking systems
  • Translate complex datasets into practical football insights that support decision-making
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable football data infrastructure
  • Develop automated workflows integrating event, tracking, video, performance, wellness, and medical data
  • Create dashboards, applications, and reporting tools using Python, SQL, APIs, and visualisation platforms
  • Streamline analytical processes through automation and custom reporting solutions
  • Manage integrations with third-party football intelligence and performance platforms
  • Collaborate with sports science and medical staff to analyse player workloads and readiness
  • Support monitoring initiatives using GPS, wellness, biometric, and match-load data
  • Contribute to predictive modelling and injury-risk monitoring projects
  • Develop visualisations supporting player development and return-to-play programmes
  • Drive innovation across football analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data engineering
  • Explore new approaches to player evaluation, tactical analysis, and performance forecasting
  • Contribute to the club’s long-term analytics strategy and competitive advantage initiatives

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Sports Analytics, Mathematics, Exercise Science, or a related discipline
  • Strong understanding of football tactics, technical concepts, and positional analysis
  • Advanced proficiency in Python, SQL, and AI-powered analytical tools
  • Experience developing automated data pipelines, workflows, and reporting systems
  • Experience with Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or equivalent visualisation platforms
  • Familiarity with platforms such as StatsBomb, Hudl, Wyscout, SkillCorner, Sportscode, or similar
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex information to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple projects in a high-performance environment

⭐ Desirable

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline
  • Experience applying machine learning, predictive analytics, or AI within elite sport
  • Experience integrating tracking, event, and video data
  • Knowledge of cloud infrastructure, APIs, databases, and modern data engineering practices
  • Experience developing bespoke applications and internal tools for football operations
  • Previous experience within performance analysis, recruitment analysis, sports science, or professional football environments
