Superstat turns game footage into pro level sports stats. & highlights. Think like ESPN level data for ALL sports teams and players. We’re an Australian founded startup, but we’re growing like crazy in the US in our initial sport offering on the platform - basketball. We’re on a mission for
Superstat to become the biggest sports analytics company in the world.

We need you to help us build this product. We’re a fast growing, venture backed startup and we are looking for an A-grade Full Stack Founding Engineer to join our team as our first hire. You’ll work super closely with the co-founders in building the product from the ground up, into new sports and new audiences.
Your Role:
Design, build and optimise our backend infrastructure for a very video-heavy product, owning the video pipeline end to end (segmentation, async processing, background jobs, upload and playback speed) Architect clean, typed layers across web (Next.js, TypeScript, React) and mobile (Expo, Tailwind), unifying both into a single monorepo with a sync engine so we ship once and land everywhere Work with Sam to bring core computer vision features to the frontend (player tracking, live scoreboard overlays, event popups on video) Get across our auth model (players, parents, coaches, admins) and ship features that work cleanly across all of them Use AI coding tools (Claude, Cursor, etc.) daily while keeping the codebase clean and efficient.
Your Skills
- Strong understanding of using and architecting AWS solutions. Having a certificate is optional but a bonus.
- Strong in Next.js, TypeScript and React, plus Expo and Tailwind, you move easily between web and mobile
- Experience with Postgres at scale, designing and migrating databases for speed and growth
- Confident in Python for async jobs and background processing, especially video
- Understand video infrastructure (Cloudflare, R2, large-scale upload/processing pipelines) and have worked with LLMs in production
- Can architect and ship features solo, no spec needed line by line, with a strong product/design eye and good UX instincts
- Thrive in startup ambiguity and speed, using AI coding tools (Claude, Cursor) daily
- Bonus: computer vision or heavy video platform experience
