Job Description
York City FC are recruiting a Head of Academy Recruitment & Analysis to lead the club’s youth recruitment operation while overseeing the strategic use of video, data and performance analysis across the Academy.
The role is central to York City’s long-term strategy of identifying, recruiting and developing talented young players capable of progressing through the pathway into the First Team.
This is a broad leadership position bringing together recruitment, talent identification and performance analysis.
The successful candidate will lead the Academy’s scouting and recruitment strategy while ensuring that youth-team video and data analysis supports player development, recruitment decisions and succession planning across age groups.
- Lead the club’s youth recruitment department and scouting operations.
- Develop and implement the Academy recruitment strategy.
- Establish recruitment objectives and monitor departmental performance.
- Lead the identification and assessment of players across Academy age groups.
- Maintain knowledge of emerging talent across priority recruitment markets.
- Lead recruitment meetings and provide recommendations on prospective signings.
- Maintain recruitment databases and player tracking systems.
- Use video, data and match analysis to evaluate current players, trialists and external targets.
- Manage and develop the club’s network of scouts and recruitment staff.
- Build relationships across grassroots clubs, academies, schools and the wider football network.
A significant element of the role is responsibility for Youth Team Analysis.
The post holder will lead the capture, review and interpretation of training and match footage and produce team, unit and individual player analysis, including video clips and key performance observations.
They will also support age-appropriate analysis meetings, maintain video libraries and player clips, and ensure analysis contributes directly to Individual Development Plans, recruitment reviews, succession planning and player pathway decisions.
The Head of Academy Recruitment & Analysis will work closely with the:
Academy Manager | Academy Coaches | First Team Recruitment | Analysts | Player Care | Safeguarding & Education Staff
The role will also collaborate with First Team recruitment on future squad requirements and integrate data and video evidence into recruitment decision-making.
Essential experience includes:
- Proven experience in football recruitment and talent identification.
- Strong understanding of Academy football and player-development pathways.
- Experience leading and managing scouting personnel.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Strong understanding of modern recruitment methods incorporating live scouting, video and data analysis.
- Ability to interpret youth-team video and performance data to support development, feedback and recruitment decisions.
Desirable experience includes working within an EFL or professional Academy, an established youth-football recruitment network, implementing recruitment systems and processes, and an understanding of player trading and long-term squad planning.
Essential requirements include:
- FA Talent ID Level 2, or equivalent recruitment/talent identification experience or qualification.
- FA Safeguarding Children.
- Enhanced DBS clearance or willingness to complete it.
- FA Emergency First Aid in Football, or equivalent.
- Evidence of relevant CPD.
- Full UK driving licence and access to transport.
Desirable qualifications and experience include FA Talent ID Level 3+, UEFA C/FA Level 2 Coaching, recruitment platforms and player databases, data-led recruitment, performance analysis and player profiling.
