Job Description
Auckland University of Technology (AUT) is recruiting across Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor and Professor levels within its School of Sport, Exercise and Health.
Of particular interest to the ASPA community, AUT is seeking expertise spanning Sport Performance Analysis, Sport-related Data Science, Sport and Exercise Physiology and Athletic Conditioning. The successful applicant will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and supervision while helping develop AUT's sport performance science provision.
The position combines teaching, research, supervision and academic leadership, with appointments considered from emerging academics with strong industry experience through to established senior academics with significant research and leadership records.
Teaching will contribute to programmes including the Bachelor of Sport, Exercise and Health, Master of Sport, Exercise and Health, and Master of Human Performance Leadership.
The role will work across AUT's North and South Campuses and AUT Millennium, a high-performance training and research facility.
AUT is particularly interested in candidates able to contribute across one or more of:
Sport Performance Analysis
Sport-related Data Science
Sport & Exercise Physiology

The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision, programme and curriculum development, and practice-led, research-informed learning.
They will also be expected to develop and publish research within their specialist area, pursue external research funding, establish collaborative partnerships and engage with industry, government, professional bodies and the wider community. Senior appointments will additionally involve academic leadership and mentoring of colleagues.
For Lecturer/Senior Lecturer appointments, applicants require a relevant PhD in Sport & Exercise Science, Sport Performance Science or a related discipline.
Early-career applicants should demonstrate the foundations of a strong research pipeline, including a primary-authored research paper. More experienced applicants should demonstrate an established programme of research, peer-reviewed publication and teaching experience. Curriculum development and postgraduate supervision experience become increasingly important at Senior Lecturer level.
For Associate Professor/Professor, AUT is seeking established academic leaders with extensive sport performance science research experience, strong publication records, international research networks, collaborative academic-industry partnerships and experience attracting external funding.
Applicants at these levels should also demonstrate substantial undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, curriculum and assessment development, postgraduate research supervision and academic leadership.
Salary depends on appointment level:
Lecturer: NZ$88,000–$104,914
Senior Lecturer: NZ$107,000–$127,000
Associate Professor: NZ$155,000–$179,000
Professor: NZ$169,000–$218,000
Appointment level and salary will be commensurate with the successful candidate's skills and experience.
