Performance Analysis Internship at Hockey New Zealand
Job Description
Hockey New Zealand are offering two Performance Analysis Internship opportunities for aspiring analysts looking to gain extensive hands-on experience within a national governing body and high-performance environment.
The programme is designed as a pathway into high-performance sport, with Hockey New Zealand encouraging a two-year commitment aligned with the Junior World Cup cycle. Interns can progress towards taking ownership of a Junior national team and may have opportunities to support international tours.
Successful applicants will work alongside Hockey New Zealand’s Lead Analyst within the Auckland-based training environment, while also taking responsibility for independent analysis tasks when national teams are away competing or training.
Analysts who demonstrate development, initiative and commitment may progress into further opportunities across the Hockey New Zealand pathway, including:
North vs South Series | U18 Super Camps | Future Black Sticks | Black Sticks Home & Away Events | Potential Overseas Tours.
Interns can expect experience across:
- Using video and statistical feedback to support objective performance discussions and player development.
- Conducting post-match analysis and data generation.
- Working with MyVideoAnalyser and MyTeamPerformance.
- Producing live analysis and information to support in-game decision-making.
- Creating motivational and performance video content.
- Remotely supporting national programmes during international competition.
- Delivering individual player analysis and supporting technical development.
- Attending domestic camps, tournaments and international series.
- Potentially travelling on overseas tours.
A particularly valuable aspect of the internship is the opportunity to develop from supporting the analysis programme towards taking greater ownership.
Previous interns have progressed into lead-analysis responsibilities at development events and travelled internationally to competitions including Junior World Cups and qualification tournaments.
Hockey New Zealand are looking for individuals passionate about developing a career in Performance Analysis and high-performance sport.
Applicants should note:
- Two internship positions are available.
- Successful applicants must be based in Auckland to attend domestic events and office meetings.
- Hours vary according to team match schedules, camps, events and tours.
- The internship is primarily a volunteer role, although Hockey New Zealand states that paid opportunities can arise throughout the placement.
- Previous Performance Analysis experience is preferred.
