Performance Intelligence Analyst at Hpsnz
Job Description
High Performance Sport New Zealand are seeking a Performance Intelligence Analyst to provide specialist analytics, visualisation and performance intelligence across HPSNZ and its partner National Sport Organisations (NSOs).
Reporting to the Senior Performance Intelligence Analyst, the role sits within the Athlete Management System team and is focused on transforming complex information into trusted, accessible and actionable insights.
The successful candidate will support decision-making across athlete monitoring, programme evaluation, pathway intelligence, campaign planning, performance reviews, investment decisions and strategic planning.
This is a broad performance-intelligence position, combining applied analytics with close collaboration across coaches, practitioners, programme leaders and sporting organisations.
- Work closely with NSOs, coaches, Athlete Performance Support practitioners and programme leaders.
- Identify key performance questions and analytical opportunities.
- Provide objective, evidence-informed recommendations to support decision-making.
- Help develop an insight-led culture across the high-performance system.
- Integrate multiple data sources to produce athlete, crew, team, squad and programme-level insights.
- Conduct both qualitative and quantitative analysis.
- Identify performance trends, drivers, risks and opportunities.
- Support athlete monitoring, programme evaluation, selection, competition analysis and performance reviews.
- Develop benchmarking and longitudinal analysis to support performance improvement and talent identification.
- Contribute to the development of AMS dashboards, reporting and analytical capabilities.
- Support the adoption of self-service reporting and analytical tools.
- Integrate information from multiple systems into trusted analytical views.
- Maintain high standards of data quality, governance, integrity and ethical information use.
- Improve data collection, information flows and analytical processes.
- Translate complex analytical findings into practical insights for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Develop dashboards, visualisations, reports, presentations and briefing materials.
- Provide evidence to support strategic planning, innovation, programme development and performance reviews.
Applicants should have experience:
- Conducting qualitative and quantitative analysis using complex datasets.
- Integrating multiple information sources to generate actionable insights.
- Developing dashboards, reports and data visualisations.
- Translating stakeholder requirements into analytical solutions.
- Working directly with coaches, athletes, practitioners or other applied stakeholders.
- Using data to support evidence-informed decision-making.
Experience in athlete monitoring, performance analysis, programme evaluation, selection support or competition intelligence is desirable.
Candidates should have strong analytical, critical-thinking, problem-solving and data-visualisation capabilities, alongside proficiency—or a willingness to work with—tools including:
SQL | R | Python | Power BI | Tableau | Excel | Snowflake | Athlete Data Management Systems
A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in Sport Science, Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Performance Analysis or another analytical discipline is required.
This is a particularly interesting role for analysts looking beyond traditional match analysis into the wider field of performance intelligence.
The breadth of the position—spanning athlete monitoring, talent identification, programme evaluation, analytics systems and strategic decision support—offers the opportunity to influence performance across the New Zealand high-performance sport system, rather than within a single team or programme.
HPSNZ also places explicit importance on Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including the principles of Partnership, Protection and Participation.
