Job Description

Bay FC is seeking a dynamic and innovative Performance Sports Scientist to join our team. This role will focus on optimizing player performance, reducing injury risk, and enhancing overall athletic development through evidence-based strength and conditioning programs, data collection and interpretation. The ideal candidate will be passionate about elite women’s soccer, data-driven performance strategies, and working collaboratively with the coaches, medical staff and athletes.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIESPerformance & Training* Develop and oversee player monitoring, physical profiling, and evaluation to deliver a clear data-informed strategy for all players.

  • Ensure the day-to-day implementation of individual physical loading strategies, targeting each player’s individual physical priorities through objective physical profiling.
  • Deliver gym-based strength and conditioning sessions alongside other performance staff.
  • Deliver on-field return to play conditioning within the MDT framework, progressing players through individualized, position-specific training.
  • Implement and conduct player monitoring and testing systems (speed, strength, power, workload response) and use the generated insights to inform multidisciplinary decision making and player management on an ongoing basis.
  • Implement sustainable systems and documentation processes to ensure that planning, load monitoring, medical intelligence, injury histories and RTP protocols remain a legacy for the club.
  • Attend all home and away training sessions and games as directed, providing direct support to players.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret internal and external training load metrics. Maintain accurate databases and dashboards for individual and team monitoring.
  • Evaluate and implement sport science technology.

Collaboration & Communication* Work collaboratively with coaching staff to optimize performance outcomes by designing, implementing and refining periodized training plans across micro-, meso-, and macro-cycles.

  • Utilize reports, briefs, and visual dashboards to clearly communicate physical outputs of training and performance testing to coaches, medical/performance staff, and athletes.
  • Provide timely, data-driven insights to optimize training intensity, volume, and recovery strategies and support competition preparation by informing tapering strategies and monitoring readiness markers.
  • Communicate training insights and recommendations clearly to relevant stakeholders.

Compliance & Administration* Compile reports as required by the League.

  • Ensure all practices comply with League medical policies, governing body standards, and team protocols.
  • Attend required League meetings, activities, and programs.

Professional Development & Innovation* Stay up-to-date with the latest trends, equipment, research, and strategies in sports performance and conditioning.

  • Continuously innovate and implement best practices to improve team performance.

Other Duties* Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Medical & Performance or as required by the League.

REQUIREMENTS* Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Sports Science, Kinesiology, or related field; Master’s preferred.

  • Certified Performance and Sport Scientist (CPSS)
  • Certification in strength and conditioning (CSCS or equivalent) preferred
  • Experience in strength and conditioning, sports science, or athletic performance roles, preferably with elite or professional athletes.
  • Knowledge of athlete monitoring systems, injury risk assessment, and performance analytics.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate across interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel with the team.

Compensation:

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $100,000-$120,000. Actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.
