Senior ML/AI Engineer at PlayerProps.ai
Job Description
About PlayerProps.ai
PlayerProps.ai is an AI-powered sports betting research and analytics platform built for the everyday bettor. We cover player props, moneylines, spreads, totals, trends, and sharp money tools across NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, WNBA, and college sports. We are an education-first research platform, never a picks service, and that positioning has earned us the 2025 FSGA Sports Betting Business of the Year award, making us the first company outside FanDuel and DraftKings to receive it.
We bootstrapped to seven figures in ARR from a founder-built community of over 200,000 sports bettors before ever spending a dollar on paid acquisition. Now, with strong unit economics and a fresh seed round behind us, we are growing the engineering team that powers the intelligence behind the product.
The Role
You will be the senior modeling and AI engineer at PlayerProps.ai, working directly with our technical lead and founder. This role spans the full intelligence layer of the platform: building new predictive and analytical models from the ground up, integrating and taming new data sources, and advancing the LLM-powered systems already serving our members.
Our roadmap includes significant expansion of what we model and for whom, and this hire will lead that work. We keep the specifics off public listings, but strong candidates will hear exactly where we are headed early in the interview process.
This is a hands-on, high-ownership role. You will ship to production, own systems end to end, and see your work in front of paying subscribers within days, not quarters.
What You Will Do
- Design, build, and ship new predictive and analytical models from raw data to production
- Evaluate, integrate, and maintain new third-party data sources, and build the pipelines that make them production reliable
- Own and advance our LLM-powered analyst: prompt architecture, retrieval, tool use, and response quality across every sport we cover
- Expand our evaluation infrastructure so every model and prompt change is measured, not guessed
- Improve the analytics engines behind our matchup grading, trends, and sharp money products
- Work with frontier model APIs and decide when new models and techniques are worth adopting
- Set the quality bar for AI and modeling work as the team grows around you
What Success Looks Like
- New model categories taken from concept to live, production-quality coverage
- Measurable improvements in analyst response quality against our eval suite, sport by sport
- Data pipelines reliable enough that no one thinks about them
- An evaluation and deployment workflow the next engineer can step into
Who You Are
- 5\+ years of software engineering experience, with 3\+ years building production ML systems, statistical models, or LLM-powered products
- Real modeling depth: you have built predictive or statistical models from raw data to production, not just consumed model APIs
- Strong data engineering fundamentals: you can source, clean, and pipeline messy third-party data from providers of varying quality
- Hands-on LLM application experience: prompt engineering, retrieval, structured outputs, tool use, and evaluation frameworks
- Production mindset: you own reliability, latency, and cost, not just accuracy
- Comfortable across the stack: our environment includes TypeScript and Python, and you can move between them
- Thoughtful about responsibility: you want to build systems that make bettors smarter and healthier, and you understand why that framing matters
- Startup ready: you thrive with ambiguity, ship fast, and communicate clearly in a small remote team
- Broad sports fluency strongly preferred, and depth beyond the major US leagues is a real differentiator
- Bonus: experience with sports data providers, prediction markets, or behavioral analytics on user activity data
What We Offer
(Open to exceptional international candidates)
- Fully remote role with a distributed-first culture
- Competitive salary: $160,000 to $180,000
- Early-stage equity
- Direct collaboration with the founder and technical lead, no layers
- Greenfield ownership of model categories that do not exist yet at PlayerProps.ai until you build them
How to Apply
Send your resume along with a short note covering two things: the most impressive predictive model or ML system you have shipped to production, and how you would approach building a model for a domain with limited historical data. Applications to ceo@betterbetsinc.com.
