Role Summary:

An experienced software engineer in the Player Engineering team specialising in Android TV video playback. You will collaborate with subject matter experts and video specialists to design, build, and optimize playback experiences across Android TV devices using a hybrid platform combining native Android (ExoPlayer) and HTML5 WebView-based UI technologies.

You will contribute high-quality engineering solutions, demonstrate strong frontend and systems engineering capabilities, and apply deep knowledge of Android TV and streaming technologies. You will work effectively within a cross-functional team, communicate clearly, and support the evolution of playback architecture and user experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement Android-native solutions to enhance network handling, ABR algorithms, and playback resiliency using ExoPlayer and related technologies.
  • Optimise playback performance, startup time, buffering behaviour, and video quality across a wide range of Android TV devices
  • Collaborate with frontend and platform teams to ensure seamless interaction between WebView UI and native playback components.
  • Contribute to the evolution of Android TV player architecture, including observability, diagnostics, and performance monitoring.
  • Participate in debugging and resolving complex playback issues across diverse device ecosystems and partner implementations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Should have minimum of 6+ Years of Professional software engineering experience with a strong delivery track record in consumer-facing applications
  • Strong expertise in Android development, particularly for Android TV platforms
  • Hands-on experience with ExoPlayer, MediaCodec, and DRM technologies such as Widevine
  • Experience working with hybrid applications combining native Android components and HTML5/WebView-based UIs
  • Proficiency in Kotlin and/or Java, with a focus on performance optimisation and platform constraints
  • Familiarity with integrating JavaScript interfaces or bridging mechanisms between WebView and native.
