Sports betting is now the most active hiring sector in sports analytics. Since the legalisation of US sports betting in 2018, companies like FanDuel, Genius Sports, and a wave of smaller operators have built large data and analytics teams — and they post salaries in their job listings.

We pulled every active listing from our database across the major sports betting and sports data companies and extracted real salary figures where disclosed. Here's what they're actually paying.

FanDuel

FanDuel is the largest single employer of analytics talent in sports right now, with 34 active data and analytics roles. They're also one of the most transparent on compensation — most US-based listings include a salary range, likely driven by pay transparency laws in New York and other states.

What the listings show:

RoleLocationSalary Range
Analyst / Commercial Data AnalystNew York$90,000 – $112,000
Consumer Insights Senior AnalystNew York$86,000 – $108,000
Payments Strategy Senior AnalystNew York$79,000 – $99,000
Commercial Senior AnalystNew York$106,000 – $133,000
Analytics EngineerNew York$98,000 – $128,100
Consumer Insights Senior ManagerNew York$127,000 – $159,000
Commercial Analytics Senior ManagerNew York$138,000 – $173,000
Data EngineerAtlanta$116,000 – $152,250
Analytics Engineer (senior)New York$152,250
Data Product ManagerNew York$116,000 – $145,000
Senior Software EngineerNew York$149,000 – $195,300
Staff Data ArchitectNew York$170,000 – $223,650
VP, Software EngineeringAtlanta$267,000 – $356,000

The pattern: entry-level analyst roles start around $80–90k in New York. Senior analysts hit $106–133k. Manager level is $127–173k. Staff and director roles push into the $170–240k range. The VP-level outlier at $267–356k is exceptional but real.

Atlanta roles run slightly lower than New York equivalents — roughly 10–15% less for comparable titles, consistent with cost-of-living differences. UK and Edinburgh roles don't list salaries.

Genius Sports

Genius Sports sits at the infrastructure layer of sports data — they provide official data feeds to the NFL, NBA, and Premier League, and have built a significant ad-tech business on top. Their New York engineering salaries are among the highest in the sector.

What the listings show:

RoleLocationSalary Range
Financial Analyst – CommercialNew York$85,000 – $100,000
Software Engineer, DataNew York$145,000 – $200,000
Senior Data Engineer, Ad-TechNew York$180,000 – $240,000
Senior Software Engineer, Data PlatformNew York / LA$180,000 – $240,000
Senior Software Engineer, GeniusIQLos Angeles$175,000 – $220,000
Senior Applied AI EngineerLos Angeles$180,000 – $230,000
Staff Software Engineer, InfrastructureNew York / LA$230,000 – $270,000
Director of Engineering, Ad-TechNew York$250,000 – $300,000
Senior Director of Engineering, Ad-TechNew York$250,000 – $325,000

The pattern: Genius Sports pays at the high end for technical data roles. Senior engineers are in the $175–240k range, staff engineers $230–270k, and director-level roles reach $300k+. These are competitive with major tech company salaries — not typical for a sports business.

The tradeoff: a significant portion of their analyst-level roles are based in Medellín, Colombia, where salaries are not disclosed and are almost certainly lower. If you're applying for an analyst role, check the location carefully.

Swish Analytics

Swish Analytics is smaller and less well-known, but their salaries are worth paying attention to. They build predictive models that price sports betting markets — the analytics is the product, not a supporting function.

What the listings show:

RoleLocationSalary
Trading AnalystSan Francisco$70,000
NFL Data ScientistSan Francisco$130,000
NHL Data ScientistSan Francisco$130,000
QA Software EngineerSan Francisco$130,000 – $170,000
Senior Quantitative ResearcherSan Francisco$155,000
Rust EngineerSan Francisco$155,000

The pattern: the Trading Analyst entry point is lower at $70k, but Data Scientist roles jump straight to $130k. Senior quant researchers are at $155k. For a company of their size, these are strong numbers — and the work is genuinely technical. If you want to build sports betting models rather than support a consumer product, this is the closest you'll get.

Penn Interactive

Penn Interactive runs BetRivers and ESPN Bet in the US, and their job listings skew toward software engineering rather than pure analytics. Most roles are remote-eligible, which is relatively rare at this salary level.

What the listings show:

RoleLocationSalary Range
Backend Engineer, Penn Game StudiosUS / Canada Remote$90,000 – $125,000
Software Engineer, Sportsbook EnablementUS / Canada Remote$110,000 – $150,000
Engineering Manager, Sports CoreUS / Canada Remote$150,000 – $200,000

The pattern: solid engineering salaries, fully remote. Less data-science-specific than FanDuel or Swish, but if you're a data engineer or software engineer who wants to work in sports, Penn is a legitimate option.

Rush Street Interactive, Kambi, Sportradar

These three have active listings but don't disclose salaries in their job descriptions.

Rush Street Interactive (BetRivers) has analytics engineering and player support analyst roles, mostly based in Bogotá and Tallinn. Kambi is a B2B sportsbook technology provider with roles in Stockholm. Sportradar has software engineering roles in Warsaw and Montevideo through their Synergy Sports subsidiary.

All three are worth watching if you're open to international locations or want to work on the B2B side of sports betting infrastructure.

How the Companies Compare

If salary is the primary driver, here's the honest summary:

Highest paying (data/engineering roles): Genius Sports, followed closely by FanDuel at the senior and staff level. Both are paying tech-company rates for the right profiles.

Best entry point for analysts: FanDuel — transparent salary bands, multiple analyst-level roles open simultaneously, and a clear progression from analyst ($86–112k) to senior analyst ($106–133k) to manager ($138–173k).

Most interesting technically: Swish Analytics. Smaller company, fewer roles, but the work is building quantitative models that price live sports markets. The salary is competitive and the domain expertise you'd build is rare.

Best for remote work: Penn Interactive — engineering roles at $110–200k that are explicitly US/Canada remote.

A Note on What's Not Here

DraftKings is conspicuously absent. They use Workday as their ATS, which means their roles aren't currently in our database. Based on publicly available data and Glassdoor reports, DraftKings pays in a similar range to FanDuel for comparable roles — but we won't put numbers in a post we can't verify from our own listings.

Same applies to MGM/BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, and Flutter's other brands. As we add more sources, we'll update this.

Final Thoughts

Sports betting analytics is one of the few parts of the sports industry where data professionals are paid at genuine tech-company rates. If you have strong SQL, Python, or ML skills, companies like FanDuel and Genius Sports are paying $130–240k for senior technical roles — comparable to what you'd earn at a mid-sized tech company, with the added context of working in sport.

The tradeoff is that the work is closer to financial services than to performance analysis. If your goal is to work on player recruitment or on-field performance, these aren't the right employers. But if you want to apply quantitative skills to sport and be paid well for it, the sports betting sector is where the money is.
