The Role:
We are looking for a detail-oriented and highly motivated individual to join our Tokyo team as a Device Performance Lab Engineer. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of our newly established, dedicated device performance lab. Your primary mission will be to continuously test and monitor the DAZN customer experience across key Japanese market devices, serving as an early warning system for performance issues ahead of and during the FIFA World Cup, and continuing as a long-term quality assurance capability.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in QA or device testing, a passion for delivering flawless user experiences, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, live sports broadcasting environment.
- Managing the day-to-day operations and maintaining the health of the Tokyo device performance lab and its infrastructure.
- Executing daily test plans across a data-driven inventory of Japanese market devices (Smart TVs, STBs, mobile devices, and tablets).
- Replicating real customer journeys, including app launch, authentication, live stream stability, VOD playback, and advertising sequencing.
- Identifying, logging, and tracking performance degradation, playback issues, and UX defects before they impact customers.
- Flagging and escalating regressions or failures immediately using centralized tracking tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).
- Producing and sharing daily performance health summaries with key stakeholders.
- Conducting heightened monitoring during the FIFA World Cup, including pre-match readiness checks, live monitoring during high-profile fixtures, and post-match incident reviews.
- Proven background in QA, software testing, or physical device testing
- Strong attention to detail and a structured approach to reporting and documentation
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work under pressure, especially during high-traffic live sporting events
- Fluency in both English and Japanese (written and spoken) to effectively communicate findings to local and global teams
