About the Role
The Golden State Valkyries are redefining what it means to be a professional sports franchise. As the newest addition to the WNBA, we aren't just building a team; we are building a movement. We are looking for a Director, Marketing who is a cultural architect, a data-driven strategist, and a world-class storyteller. In this role, you will maintain brand excellence across all marketing touchpoints and develop integrated marketing campaigns with a key focus on deepening fan engagement and acquiring new fans. Additionally, you will oversee the strategic development and execution of all brand marketing initiatives to support key revenue goals and continued growth of the Valkyries brand. This position reports to the Vice President, Marketing.

This is a full-time role based onsite in Oakland, CA with frequent travel to San Francisco and travel in and out of market.
Key Responsibilities
• Serve as a brand steward ensuring consistency across marketing, partnerships, community relations, and game presentation
• Manage external creative agencies and internal creative resources to ensure delivery of high-quality, on-brand assets across all campaigns, content initiatives, and digital activations
• Lead strategic campaign development for Valkyries brand initiatives as well as department initiatives to increase fan satisfaction, community engagement, and revenue
• Serve as the primary point of coordination for tentpole moments (major theme nights, jersey releases, season campaigns), ensuring all departments remain on schedule and on brand
• Lead execution for multi-channel campaigns (digital, social, email, traditional media) to drive fan engagement and ticket sales including leading campaign kickoffs and weekly marketing syncs
• Serve as the central connector across Public Relations, Corporate Partnerships, Ticket Sales, Community Relations, and Events to ensure unified goals and messaging.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the brand marketing team, fostering a creative and collaborative environment providing clear goals to ensure continuous growth and success
• Manage campaign reporting, gather KPIs across channels, and provide insights to improve performance, efficiency, and fan engagement
• Manage department budget and allocate resources effectively for maximum ROI ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Required Experience & Skills
• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Marketing/Business Administration, or equivalent work experience
• 7+ years of experience in marketing and brand storytelling, preferably within sports, entertainment, or lifestyle brands
• Proficiency in current and emerging marketing trends and the ability to influence conversations based on knowledge and expertise
• Solid understanding of the sports landscape, particularly women's basketball, the WNBA, and audience engagement trends
• Excellent storytelling, written and verbal communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite/Google Suite
• Ability to build positive working relationships at all levels within the organization
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to balance multiple projects at once in a fast-paced work environment
Time Commitment
• Ability to maintain a flexible schedule as evenings and weekend shifts may be required
Compensation
• $128,000 - 143,000 + Bonus
