Job Description
The Director of Talent & HRBP is a strategic leader within the Human Resources function responsible for developing and executing comprehensive talent and people strategies that support the Charlotte Hornets’ organizational goals. This role serves as a trusted Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to designated business units, advising on performance management, employee relations and organizational effectiveness.
In addition, this role oversees full-cycle recruiting across both full-time and part-time staff, workforce planning, and onboarding strategies to attract, retain and integrate top-tier talent. The Director partners closely with senior leadership to build a high-performance culture, strengthen early career pipelines, and ensure the organization remains competitive in attracting diverse and high-caliber professionals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Talent
• Lead and oversee full-cycle recruiting across full-time and part-time workforce, ensuring a high-quality and efficient hiring process.
• Drive workforce planning and hiring strategy in partnership with department leaders to align talent needs with organizational priorities and business growth objectives.
• Oversee and continuously improve onboarding and early talent integration to ensure strong employee experience and accelerated time to productivity.
• Manage and develop early career and intern talent pipeline programs to build a sustainable and diverse talent bench.
• Implement data-driven recruiting and talent strategies, leveraging analytics to improve hiring effectiveness and retention outcomes.
• Enhance the candidate and employee experience across the talent lifecycle.
HRBP
• Serve as the primary HR Business Partner (HRBP) to assigned business units, advising leaders on performance management, employee relations and organizational effectiveness.
• Partner with executive leadership and department heads to identify talent needs, succession planning opportunities and organizational design initiatives.
• Provide coaching and guidance to managers on employee development, engagement and performance improvement.
• Ensure compliance with all employment laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
• Collaborate with HR leadership on broader people strategies and initiatives.
• Stay current on industry trends, labor market insights and best practices in talent management and HR business partnership.
• Other duties as assigned by the SVP of People Strategy.
Required Skills, Experience and Abilities
To perform the job successfully, you should demonstrate the following competencies:
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in Human Resources, including both HR Business Partner and talent acquisition leadership roles.
• Experience in sports, entertainment or a fast-paced corporate environment preferred.
• Proven ability to develop and execute strategic talent and HR initiatives that drive business results.
• Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
• Expertise in full-cycle recruiting, workforce planning and HR business partnership.
• Experience managing early career programs, internships and campus recruiting initiatives.
• Strong knowledge of employee relations, performance management and employment law.
• Experience with HRIS, ATS platforms and talent analytics tools.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion practices.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Strong organizational and project management abilities with attention to detail.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
• High level of adaptability and ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends and events as required within a professional sports environment.
