Job Description

COMPANY BACKGROUND The Houston Dynamo Football Club (HDFC) is a multi-faceted organization dedicated to inspiring and supporting soccer participation and growth in Houston, TX and beyond. The Club’s brands include men's and women's professional teams - the Houston Dynamo (MLS) and Houston Dash (NWSL), a development academy, Houston Dynamo Dash Charities, as well as Shell Energy Stadium and Houston Sports Park. HDFC has a rich history, including two-MLS Cup (2006, 2007) and two-U.S. Open Cup (2018, 2023) championships and is focused on building toward the next championships, inspiring and uniting the city of Houston through the sport of soccer and community outreach. PURPOSE OF THE JOB Houston Dynamo FC is seeking a motivated and skilled Data Analyst to join the Club's analytics function, supporting data-driven decision-making across recruitment and team performance. This role sits at the intersection of talent identification and first team evaluation, working in close collaboration with the Head of Analysis to deliver clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders. The successful candidate will bring hands-on experience with soccer-specific data and a strong analytical foundation. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES • Quickly answer ad-hoc questions from technical staff, recruitment, and leadership. • Deliver analytical support to the recruitment process, using data to surface and prioritize potential targets aligned with Club needs. • Build and maintain automated reports, including scouting, opposition, and post-match reports. • Develop a library of data visualizations based on metrics and KPIs established by the technical and recruitment staff. • Iterate on existing reports and visualizations based on feedback from technical and recruitment staff. • Collaborate with technical staff on developing KPIs to measure game model effectiveness and prepare for upcoming opponents. • Communicate outputs of complex models to non-technical audiences using accessible, sport-specific language. • Support the analytics team on longer-term projects, ensuring alignment with team and organizational requirements. • Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor's degree or post-secondary qualification in Performance Analysis, Mathematics, Computer Science, or an equivalent field • Strong tactical knowledge and understanding of soccer • Strong data visualization background • Proficiency in data science programming languages such as Python or R • Ability to query SQL-style databases • Excellent communication skills, particularly in presenting data concepts to non-technical audiences • Previous experience in a professional or collegiate sporting environment • Proven ability to work under tight timelines and deliver high-quality work • Ability and willingness to work non-traditional hours including evenings and weekends as needed • Represent Houston Dynamo FC professionally in all internal and external environments • Perform additional duties as assigned in support of Club objectives KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER ATTRIBUTES • Previous experience with a professional club or national team environment • Strong knowledge of the professional soccer landscape, especially MLS • Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills • Bilingual (English, Spanish, or other language) – preferred • Experience with cloud-based data architecture (AWS, GCP, or Azure) • Proficiency in version control using Git • Excels in a collaborative work environment • High standards of accountability. • Dedicated to setting ambitious goals and pushing to exceed them. • Respectful in their communication, empathy, and inclusiveness of fellow team members. • Maintain high standards and an optimistic outlook when facing challenges. • Ability to work and make decisions in a high stress and competitive environment. • High level of confidence. • Maintains Organizational Core Competencies.
