Job Description

Sheffield Wednesday are seeking a Head of Local Recruitment (9–16) to lead the identification and recruitment of talented young players across the local region, supporting the Academy's long-term player pathway strategy.

The successful candidate will oversee the club’s local scouting network, build relationships across grassroots and professional football, and lead recruitment strategy for Academy age groups.

⚽ Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement local recruitment and talent identification strategies
  • Identify and recruit high-potential players from grassroots clubs, schools, county associations, private academies, and professional clubs
  • Lead and manage the local scouting network
  • Maintain Academy depth charts, succession planning, and recruitment targets
  • Act as a key point of contact with parents, clubs, and stakeholders during player acquisition processes
  • Organise initiatives such as trials, tournaments, and assessment centres
  • Produce scouting reports and manage recruitment databases
  • Work closely with Academy leadership and multidisciplinary staff to support recruitment decisions
  • Ensure compliance with EPPP requirements and football governing body regulations
  • Develop and maintain a strong local football network and talent pipeline

Essential Requirements

  • FA Talent ID Level 3 qualification
  • Proven experience in Talent Identification and player recruitment
  • Experience developing and executing recruitment strategies
  • Experience working within an Academy leadership role or similar environment
  • Strong understanding of EPPP regulations
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to lead recruitment processes and scouting teams effectively
  • Strong IT and database management skills

  • FA Talent ID Level 4 qualification
  • Established and productive network within the professional game
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary football environments

Additional Information

  • Extensive local travel required, with occasional overseas travel
  • Evening and weekend working required
  • DBS checks may apply as part of safeguarding requirements
