Job Description
Northampton Town FC are seeking a Head of Performance Analysis to lead the club’s analysis department and provide comprehensive analytical support to the First Team.
Working closely with the First Team Manager and coaching staff, this senior role will be responsible for delivering high-quality opposition, match, and player analysis, while overseeing the club’s wider analysis provision across both the First Team and Academy.
⚽ Key Responsibilities
- Develop a deep understanding of the club’s playing philosophy and key principles
- Lead comprehensive pre-match opposition analysis, identifying tactical trends, structures, strengths, weaknesses, and key players
- Present detailed analytical insights to the First Team Manager and coaching staff
- Deliver thorough post-match analysis on team, unit, and individual performances
- Attend all First Team fixtures to provide live match analysis and real-time insights to coaching staff
- Produce bespoke analytical projects to support football department objectives
- Ensure all First Team training sessions are filmed and analysed
- Support individual player development through video feedback and performance review processes
- Assist coaching staff with tactical preparation and game planning
- Manage and mentor a team of analysts, including full-time staff and interns
- Oversee analysis provision and workflows throughout the academy age groups (U9-U18)
- Support the development of academy analysts and promote best practice across the department
- Build relationships with education providers to maintain internship pathways and talent development opportunities
- Maintain expert knowledge of industry-leading analysis software and emerging technologies
- Build strong relationships with software providers to ensure the club remains at the forefront of analysis practice
- Drive continuous improvement across analysis processes and departmental outputs
Essential Requirements
- Minimum two years’ full-time experience in a performance analysis role within a professional football club
- Minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree in a sports-related discipline (or equivalent)
- High-level proficiency in analysis software including Hudl Sportscode, Hudl Studio, Wyscout, SBG Focus, SBG Matchtracker, Impect, and related platforms
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure, fast-paced environments
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, public holidays, and travel with the First Team
