Job Description

Middlesbrough FC are seeking an experienced First Team Opposition Analyst to join their Performance Analysis department.

Reporting to the Head of Performance Analysis, this role will play a key part in the club's tactical preparation by delivering detailed opposition analysis, live match support, and actionable performance insights to the First Team coaching staff. Working closely with coaches, analysts, and the Data Department, you'll help shape match strategy and contribute to performance at Championship level.

First Team Opposition Analyst

  • Lead the preparation and presentation of opposition analysis for the First Team coaching staff.
  • Deliver detailed tactical insights using video analysis, telestration, and presentation tools.
  • Analyse opposition playing styles, tactical trends, and key threats to support match planning.
  • Produce individual player analysis and video clips on opposition players for Middlesbrough's squad.
  • Work alongside the Goalkeeping Coach to provide opposition analysis focused on attacking threats and goalkeeping preparation.
  • Attend all First Team home and away fixtures.
  • Perform live coding of matches using Hudl Sportscode.
  • Deliver real-time feedback and replay support to coaching staff during matches.
  • Assist with tactical adjustments through live analysis.
  • Maintain databases tracking opposition trends, tactical patterns, and playing philosophies.
  • Support the Head of Performance Analysis in producing post-match tactical reviews and performance presentations.
  • Assist with the filming and analysis of training sessions when required.
  • Collaborate with the Data Department to integrate video and data insights into coaching workflows.
  • Extensive experience within a First Team Performance Analysis role at a professional football club.
  • Undergraduate and/or postgraduate degree in Performance Analysis, Sport Science, or a related discipline.
  • Excellent knowledge of Championship and EFL football, including tactical trends and league demands.
  • Ability to convert video and data into clear, actionable insights for coaches and players.
  • High-level proficiency with industry-leading software including Hudl Sportscode, Wyscout, Second Spectrum, StatsBomb, Hudl Studio, and Mac-based presentation tools such as Keynote and Numbers.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Professional, proactive, and highly collaborative approach.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and build trusted relationships.
  • Flexible to work evenings, weekends, and travel with the First Team.
  • Right to work in the UK.
