Stoke City FC are recruiting a First Team Performance Analyst to join their Performance Analysis department.
This is a hands-on role at the centre of the First Team programme, with particular responsibility for set-piece analysis, alongside coach-facing analysis across training, matchday and individual player development.
The successful candidate will take a leading role in Stoke City’s set-piece analysis process, working directly with the coaching staff to assess the team’s own performance and provide detailed opposition intelligence ahead of every fixture.
Alongside this specialist responsibility, the analyst will support the wider First Team analysis operation across training capture, live match analysis, individual player development and matchday delivery.
- Lead the department’s set-piece analysis process for restarts.
- Analyse Stoke City’s set-piece performance, including routines, deliveries, markers and blockers.
- Deliver detailed opposition set-piece analysis, identifying routines, key personnel and threats.
- Support set-piece training on the grass and review sessions alongside coaching staff.
- Travel with the First Team to all home and away fixtures and training camps.
- Manage matchday analysis logistics, equipment and connectivity.
- Support individual player analysis and provide clips for Individual Development Plans.
- Deliver analysis through Hudl Sportscode, Hudl Studio, Wyscout and Opta.
- Maintain analysis equipment and ensure footage and data are securely managed.
Applicants should have previous experience working in a Performance Analysis role within professional football, either at First Team or Academy level.
Strong technical and football knowledge is required, including:
- Advanced proficiency with Hudl Sportscode and Hudl Studio, or equivalent.
- Strong tactical understanding of football.
- Detailed knowledge of attacking and defensive set-piece principles.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with coaches and players.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to deliver accurately under significant time pressure.
Stoke City also identify the following as desirable:
- Undergraduate degree at 2:1 or above in Sports Coaching, Performance Analysis or a related sports discipline.
- Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
- UEFA B Licence or above, or currently working towards it.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Experience operating drone or fixed-camera training capture systems.
This is a particularly interesting opportunity for an analyst with strong tactical and set-piece expertise, combining a specialist analytical responsibility with involvement across the wider First Team programme:
Set-Piece Analysis → Opposition Analysis → Training Analysis → Live Matchday Support → Individual Player Development
The successful candidate will work directly with Stoke City’s coaching staff and travel as part of the First Team operation throughout the season.
