Job Description
The University of Nottingham and Notts County FC have partnered to offer a unique Master of Research (MRes) with an Applied Club Placement in Performance Analysis, providing students with the opportunity to undertake postgraduate research while working within a professional football environment.
Successful applicants will be embedded within Notts County FC for approximately 20 hours per week, collecting and analysing real-world performance data as part of a live applied research project. The findings will contribute to both the student's MRes thesis and the club's ongoing performance and research objectives.

Technical and Tactical Performance in Elite Football
The applied research project will investigate the technical and tactical factors associated with successful performance in elite football, using performance analysis techniques to explore:
- Technical and tactical performance indicators.
- Team organisation and playing styles.
- Decision-making and ball movement.
- Tactical effectiveness across different levels of competition.
- Training design and periodisation within elite football.
- The relationship between coaching methodology and long-term player and team performance.
- Spend approximately 20 hours per week embedded within Notts County FC.
- Collect and analyse match and training performance data.
- Support live research projects within a professional football environment.
- Work alongside club performance and coaching staff.
- Contribute directly to the club's performance objectives.
- Analyse match footage and event data.
- Investigate technical and tactical performance indicators.
