Job Description

Manchester Metropolitan University is seeking an outstanding Senior Lecturer in Sports Performance Analysis to strengthen its teaching, research and knowledge exchange activities within the Department of Sport & Exercise Sciences.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge education and research in sports performance analysis, with a particular focus on applied sport data, video analysis, tracking technologies, athlete monitoring, and data visualisation. The successful candidate will help bridge the gap between performance analysis, coaching practice, sport science and data science while supporting Manchester Met's Road to 2030 strategy.

Senior Lecturer (Research, Education & Citizenship) in Sports Performance Analysis

  • Deliver engaging undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across sports performance analysis.
  • Lead practical sessions, workshops and applied learning experiences.
  • Supervise undergraduate, postgraduate and research student projects.
  • Develop innovative teaching materials and contribute to curriculum design.
  • Provide academic tutoring and pastoral support.
  • Develop and lead internationally recognised research in sports performance analysis.
  • Secure external research funding and collaborate on interdisciplinary projects.
  • Publish high-quality research outputs.
  • Supervise postgraduate researchers.
  • Build partnerships with industry, sports organisations and governing bodies.
  • Contribute to departmental and faculty research strategy.
  • Support the development of colleagues and academic culture.
  • Participate in quality assurance, programme leadership and governance.
  • Engage in outreach, recruitment and public engagement activities.
  • PhD in Sports Performance Analysis or a related discipline.
  • Experience using performance analysis software such as Hudl Sportscode, Dartfish, Nacsport, or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Video analysis
  • Event data
  • Tracking data
  • Athlete monitoring
  • Performance data collection and interpretation
  • Experience applying quantitative and data-informed approaches within sport.
  • Experience working with athletes, coaches, analysts, clubs or governing bodies.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex performance data into practical insights.
  • Commitment to student-centred learning and academic excellence.
  • Experience using analytical tools such as Python, R, SQL, MATLAB, Power BI or Tableau.
  • Experience securing external research funding.
  • Academic leadership experience.
  • Supervising PhD students.
  • Higher Education teaching qualification (or willingness to obtain Fellowship of the HEA).
