Job Description

Manchester City are recruiting a Performance Data Analyst to support Manchester City Women’s Performance Services team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a current Master’s or PhD student to gain hands-on experience applying data analysis within an elite women’s football environment.

The successful candidate will help collect, clean, analyse and report on health and performance data, supporting decision-making around player availability and on-pitch performance.

Working alongside Manchester City Women’s Performance Services practitioners and City Football Group’s Football Intelligence team, the analyst will help ensure performance information is accurate, timely and meaningful.

A particular focus will be placed on translating data into practical insights relating to female athlete health and performance.

  • Support the collection, cleaning and validation of health and performance data.
  • Analyse data from core performance systems, testing and practitioner outputs.
  • Maintain accurate and well-organised athlete management system data.
  • Produce clear reports and analytical summaries for practitioners.
  • Support the development of analytical frameworks and methods.
  • Conduct appropriate data quality assurance and validation.
  • Translate analytical findings into practical performance insights.
  • Work collaboratively with Performance Services practitioners and CFG Football Intelligence colleagues.
  • Support evidence-informed decisions relating to player health, availability and physical performance.
  • Handle sensitive athlete information carefully and appropriately.

Applicants should currently be studying towards a relevant Master’s degree or PhD in a quantitative discipline, such as:

Data Science | Sports Science | Statistics | Mathematics | Computer Science | Epidemiology | or related discipline

Candidates should also demonstrate:

  • Understanding of core statistical and data-analysis concepts.
  • Experience with at least one analytical or programming tool such as Python, R, SQL or MATLAB.
  • Competence using Microsoft Excel or equivalent spreadsheet software.
  • Ability to clean, organise, validate and analyse data accurately.
  • Ability to communicate analytical findings clearly to non-technical practitioners.
  • Strong organisational and collaborative skills.
  • A careful and methodical approach to data quality.
  • Ability to manage recurring responsibilities alongside academic study.

This role offers postgraduate students the opportunity to apply their analytical skills directly within an elite women’s football performance environment.

It provides exposure to the complete applied performance-data workflow:

Data Collection → Cleaning & Validation → Analysis → Reporting → Practitioner Insight → Performance Decision-Making

The collaboration between Manchester City Women Performance Services and CFG Football Intelligence also makes this a particularly relevant development opportunity for students looking to progress into sports data science, performance analysis or performance intelligence.

Closing date: Wednesday 23 September 2026

Applicants are encouraged to apply early.

Employment is subject to proof of eligibility to work in the UK and the appropriate DBS check. City Football Group welcomes applications from all backgrounds and can provide reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process.
