Preston North End are recruiting a Head of Technical to help shape the club’s First Team recruitment strategy and establish a clear and consistent technical vision across player recruitment.

Working closely with the Head of Recruitment and First Team Manager, the successful candidate will provide leadership across recruitment and squad planning, player profiling and talent identification, combining football judgement, data, video and market intelligence to support decision-making.

This is a senior technical recruitment position requiring an individual capable of translating the club’s football strategy and playing model into effective player identification, profiling and recruitment processes.

The role will combine traditional scouting with Performance Analysis and data-led recruitment, helping Preston develop an evidence-based approach to identifying and assessing potential First Team players.

The post-holder will also oversee the club’s scouting network.

Identify and assess recruitment targets through scouting intelligence, performance data, video analysis and live observation.
Ensure targets align with the club’s playing philosophy, recruitment strategy and defined player profiles.
Create high-quality recruitment video packages using Wyscout and other scouting platforms.
Translate tactical and positional profiles into focused visual and analytical evidence.
Maintain structured databases covering player information, reports, video, KPIs and recruitment intelligence.
Develop and continually refine club-specific positional and player-profile KPIs.
Retrieve, manipulate and interpret football data through APIs and other data sources.
Design clear data visualisations supporting recruitment decisions.
Integrate traditional scouting, video analysis and data intelligence to build comprehensive player assessments.
Develop and maintain prioritised player shortlists.
Contribute technical and data-led insight within recruitment meetings.
Continuously improve scouting processes, technology and workflows.
Maintain strict confidentiality around player, transfer, agent and financial information.

The role requires the ability to source, interpret and apply data across player, opposition and team analysis, while translating complex technical, tactical and statistical information into clear insights for coaches and football staff.

Essential experience includes:

At least two years working within a professional First Team football environment.
Strong understanding of First Team coaching and performance processes.
Experience across football scouting, Performance Analysis and data.
Ability to present complex information clearly to non-technical football audiences.
Ability to operate under changing deadlines and manage competing priorities.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and matchdays.
Full UK driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle. Working Arrangements

The role will be predominantly remote, although regular travel to fixtures will be required. The successful candidate may also be required to work from the First Team Training Ground, Deepdale or Academy Training Complex when appropriate.

Working hours are a minimum of 37.5 hours per week, with evening, weekend and bank-holiday work expected according to the football schedule.
