First Team Performance Analyst at Sheffield Wednesday
Job Description
Sheffield Wednesday FC are recruiting a First Team Performance Analyst to join the club’s high-performance environment, reporting directly to the Head of First Team Performance Analysis.
The successful candidate will deliver video and data-driven performance analysis to support the club’s game model, opposition preparation, match planning, individual player development and overall First Team performance.
Working closely with the First Team Manager, coaching and performance staff, the analyst will ensure that analysis reflects the coaching team's football philosophy and provides clear, actionable insights.
The position covers the complete First Team analysis cycle, including pre-match, live and post-match analysis, alongside longer-term work identifying tactical trends across the division.
- Work closely with the First Team Manager and coaches to ensure analysis reflects the club's game model and football philosophy.
- Combine video and data to identify opposition trends and support match-plan development.
- Deliver pre-match, live and post-match analysis.
- Provide actionable analytical insights to First Team coaching staff.
- Build and maintain video and data databases covering upcoming opponents.
- Identify divisional trends and themes, including goals, set plays and styles of play.
- Develop best-practice databases featuring elite players and teams displaying tactical behaviours relevant to the Sheffield Wednesday game model.
- Produce high-quality opposition analysis using all available resources.
- Maintain and securely back up match analysis, presentations and associated documentation.
- Explore new technologies, methodologies and analytical processes to continually improve the club's analysis provision.
- Maintain appropriate CPD and continually develop professional skills.
Sheffield Wednesday are looking for an experienced analyst capable of operating effectively within the demands of a professional First Team environment.
- Master’s degree in Performance Analysis or a related discipline.
- UEFA B Coaching Licence.
- Approximately 3–4 years' performance analysis experience within an elite football team environment.
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Exceptional proficiency with Hudl Sportscode, Studio, Hudl and Insights or related analysis technologies.
- Good understanding of football data providers including Opta and StatsBomb.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to integrate video, data and tactical understanding into meaningful football insights.
- Strong football and tactical understanding.
- Excellent communication skills.
- High attention to detail.
- Ability to work quickly and effectively under tight deadlines.
- Strong organisation and work ethic.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive club information appropriately.
- Capacity to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary First Team environment.
This is a significant First Team analysis position for an experienced practitioner looking to operate directly alongside professional coaching and performance staff.
