Job Description
GWS GIANTS are offering an exciting Football Performance Analyst Internship for their 2027 campaign, providing aspiring analysts with hands-on experience inside an elite AFL environment.
The programme is designed for ambitious early-career analysts looking to develop the practical skills required to work within high-performance sport.
Interns will work across the GIANTS' AFL and VFL programmes, gaining experience in video capture, performance analysis, data visualisation, player education and opposition scouting.
- Capture training and match footage.
- Combine video and data to support Performance Analysis.
- Analyse the GIANTS' game style and principles.
- Support individual and team player education.
- Contribute to opposition scouting across AFL and VFL.
- Code and organise video for coaches.
- Develop practical experience in data visualisation.
- Gain exposure to elite-level matchday analysis workflows.
- Develop an understanding of the processes used by professional analysts to turn video and data into actionable coaching information.
The internship runs from November 2026 through to September 2027, requiring approximately 8–10 hours per week.
Applicants must be available for weekend matches during the season.
The programme can be completed through either:
- University Vocational Placement (for credit) – subject to university approval.
- Volunteer Internship (non-university) – for candidates seeking professional experience outside formal study.
- Valid National Police Check.
- NSW Working With Children Check.
- Weekend availability during the AFL season.
- Background or strong understanding of Australian Rules Football.
- Interest in analytics and elite high-performance sport.
- Familiarity with Apple/Mac workflows.
