Job Description
Middlesbrough FC are seeking a Lead Performance Analyst to oversee and lead the Performance Analysis provision within the club’s Category One Academy.
This is an exciting leadership opportunity for an experienced analyst to manage the Academy Analysis department, deliver high-quality analytical support across all age groups, and play a key role in enhancing player and team development throughout the academy pathway.
Lead Performance Analyst – Academy
⚽ Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the Academy Analysis department
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality performance analysis support across all academy age groups
- Develop and maintain analysis standards, workflows, and best practices throughout the department
- Support the long-term development of analytical processes within the Academy
- Deliver pre-match, post-match, and live analysis support for relevant age groups
- Support Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) through targeted performance analysis interventions
- Provide coaches and players with actionable insights to support technical, tactical, and developmental objectives
- Contribute to player progression and performance enhancement throughout the Academy pathway
- Lead the recruitment, training, and ongoing support of Performance Analysis interns
- Line manage and develop Academy Analysis staff
- Conduct staff appraisals and performance reviews
- Design and implement a structured Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programme for analysis staff
- Maintain and manage Academy performance analysis databases, ensuring accuracy and accessibility of information
- Build strong working relationships with multidisciplinary staff across the Academy
- Develop and manage relationships with external stakeholders to support Academy objectives
- Support collaborative working across all departments within the football programme
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience working within an elite sporting environment
- Experience using industry-leading analysis platforms such as Hudl, Wyscout, Impect, and related technologies
- Demonstrable leadership and people management experience
- Strong technical and tactical understanding of football
- High proficiency in IT systems and performance data management
- Ability to analyse, interpret, and present performance information effectively
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
- Experience working to demanding schedules and deadlines in high-performance environments
- Self-motivated, proactive, and highly organised approach to work
